Our English vision: At Barton Hill, we believe children should learn to write using real-life experiences, as well as quality texts and authors to inspire them. We want children to inform and entertain and become excellent communicators through writing and talking. On their journey, they will learn how to spell as well as understanding how to write confidently, fluently and neatly and understand how to manipulate grammar and punctuation to become confident, creative writers. In reading, our aim is for high-quality teaching to engage all children to foster a life-long love of books. We want to equip them to become skilled readers for secondary school and beyond. Pupils will have the chance to develop culturally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Their enjoyment of literature will see them study a broad range of texts to develop cultural awareness and raise attainment so all children from all backgrounds can meet age related expectations.
