Iulia Pickup
Governor
Born to an Italian father and a German mother, Iulia grew up in North London. She studied building surveying and moved to Bristol for work, later qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor at the end of the 80’s. In the mid 90’s she lived in Kenya and Sri Lanka for a few years with her young family and gained some insight into the complex cultural issues that existed in those countries at the time.
Returning to Bristol she worked as a building surveyor for the National Trust. During this period she was an active member of her children’s primary school PTFA and helped out in class and school events. She promoted the positive opportunities school life offered pupils. Later, as a change from building surveying, for a number of years she managed her children’s secondary school library creating a safe and welcoming learning space.
Her own children are continuing their academic and life journeys and she wants to help create the positive environment that the pupils at Barton Hill Academy need and deserve to make the most of the opportunities available to them.
